Our Annual Blessing of Pets and Pet Owners will be taking place on Sunday, October 6 at 2:00 p.m. under the canopy outside St. John.
This Blessing is always held the first Sunday in October which is close to the feast of St. Francis of Assisi (October 4th). Remembering the story of creation from the book of Genesis where everything God made is good, Francis spoke of those gifts with terms of endearment: Sister Sun, Brother Moon, Brother Dog, Sister Cat, Brother Rabbit, Sister Cow, etc… The story is told that one time when people in town wouldn’t listen to him preach God’s word, instead he spoke to the animals who surrounded him and listened to him. The animal welcomed his gentle and loving words.
