Charles Treece

Charles David Treece, age 83, of Lapeer, died peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Wednesday, December 14, 2022.

Charles was born June 27, 1939, in Pontiac, Michigan to Daniel and Elsie (Duncan) Treece. He graduated from Pontiac Central High School, class of 1958. He married Bernadette Amman on March 11, 1971. Chuck was an industrial engineer with Pontiac Motors. His career spanned 30 years – he retired in 1988. Upon “retirement”, Chuck began his political career and served on many committees and boards. He became a Lapeer County Commissioner and eventually the Mayor.

Chuck and Bernadette were 45 year members of Immaculate Conception Church. He was instrumental in beginning the Word of Life Prayer Group and was a spiritual mentor to many. Chuck was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and woodworking. He was known for his quick wit and infectious laughter. Those who knew him were fortunate to be touched by his faith and kindness.

Chuck is survived by his wife, Bernadette Treece; daughters: Debbie (Kevin) Daley of Attica, Vickie Kosinski of Lapeer, Kay (Kyle) Pettine of Fort Collins, CO, Marie Lyle of Lapeer, Jon (Erica) Treece of Darlington, SC, Jennifer (Tim) Clemens of Metamora, Rene Treece of Asheville, NC, Tim (Melissa) Treece of Venice, FL and Steven (Chelsea) Treece of Ortonville; fifteen grandchildren; nineteen great grandchildren; siblings: James (Sharon) Treece of Fort Pierce, FL, Joan Anderson of Albuquerque, NM, Floyd (Darnell) Treece of Evansville, IN and Linda Gerard of Waterford. Chuck is also survived by many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his dear grandson, Thomas Daley; siblings: Marvin Treece, Anita Douglas and Paula Matthews as well as his aforementioned parents.

Visitation will be held from 1-4PM and 6-8PM Sunday, December 18, 2022, at Muir Brothers Funeral Home, Lapeer. The rosary will be prayed at 3PM Sunday at Muir’s. Chuck’s funeral Mass will be held at 1:00PM Monday, December 19, 2022, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Davison. The family will receive friends from 12-1PM at church the day of the service. Father Andrew Czajkowski, celebrant. Chuck will be interred at Mt. Loretto Cemetery, Lapeer.
