Lauriejane “Laurie” Clare Smith, 64, of Otisville, formerly of Davison, died unexpectedly on Monday, February 22, 2021, at her residence.
The daughter of Donald and Albertine (Saumier) Smith, Laurie was born in Flint on September 28, 1956, and lived in Davison for the majority of her life. She graduated from Davison High School in 1974 and the criminal justice program at Mott Community College in 1976. She began her career in law enforcement as a park ranger for Genesee County Parks before joining the Genesee County Sheriff’s Office as a patrol deputy and paramedic in 1983. After she retired in 2003, she worked as an EMT for several ambulance services in Genesee County.
It was during her career in public service that she met Patricia (Lawrence) Smith, a fellow EMT with whom she shared many happy years and married on October 13, 2015. The two enjoyed the Detroit Tigers, golf, casino trips, and spending time in northern Michigan.
Laurie was a loving and devoted daughter, sister, aunt, and friend. She selflessly cared for her mother until her death in 2014. She had a generous spirit, a wicked sense of humor, and an infectious laugh that will be sorely missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by her brothers, Daryle and Jack (Barb) Smith; nieces and nephews, John (Mindy) Smith, Joel (Lana) Smith, Daren (Patti) Smith, Dolen Smith, Darci (Michael) Swisher, and Andrea (Patrick) Cahill; great-nieces and nephews; special cousins, including Gail Jackson and Betty Simonye; Patricia’s children and grandchildren; and countless friends, many of whom were like family, such as Bradley “Howdy” Anderson.
She was preceded in death by her wife and parents; sister-in-law, Barbara Smith; and nephew, Jeffery Smith.
In honor of her wishes, cremation has taken place and no public services will be held. A private burial will be held at St. John Catholic Cemetery on the family plot. Those desiring to make contributions in her memory may choose the charity of their choice.
