Phillip Christensen

CHRISTENSEN, Phillip J. – of Davison, age 75, passed away Friday, October 29, 2021, surrounded by his family at Karmanos Cancer Institute. Cremation has taken place. A Private Memorial Mass will be celebrated at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church; Rev. Fr. Andrew Czajkowski celebrant. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made, in Phil’s memory, to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society or a charity of your choice.

Phil was born in Chicago, Illinois on September 20, 1946, son of the late Chris and Jeanne (Loftus) Christensen. He graduated from Pius XI High School in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Phil also attended University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and Mott Community College. He completed police training at the Flint Police Academy. He was drafted into the U.S. Army from 1967 to 1969 and fought in the Vietnam War. During his military service, Phil earned the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with 2 Bronze Stars, Vietnam Campaign Medal with 60 device, Purple Heart, Combat Infantryman’s Badge, Valorous Unit Award, 2 Overseas Bars, Army Commendation Medal and was a Marksman with the M-16 and Pistol 45. He retired from the United States Postal Service in 2007 after 31 years of service and earned multiple awards throughout his career. Phil married JoAnn Svitkovich on September 20, 1975. He loved his family very much and spent most of his time with them. He enjoyed being outdoors, being one with nature. Music and their messages were always a part of Phil’s life, this appreciation is also present in his family’s lives. He was interested in military and Native American history. He very artistically painted military and Native American models, which he assembled and displayed.

Phil is survived by his wife, JoAnn; daughters, Laura (Jason) Christensen Saims and Erin Christensen; grandchildren, Dylan and Leah Saims; mother, Jeanne; brothers, Tom (Debbie) and John (Jill); dear friend, Charlie; and many other loving family members and friends. He was preceded in death by father, Chris.
