Prior to the Mass, Janel’s family would like to welcome her family, friends, and fans beginning at 3 PM. In a nod to the fun and flair “Queen Janel” enjoyed so much, loved ones will gather at St. John Cemetery for a sparkling sunset celebration of life.

Janel was born in Lapeer, Michigan on May 21, 1981, second child to Dennis and Lorraine (Madden) Provost, younger sister to Philip, Goddaughter to her “Father” Jody Provost and “Mother” Nancy Madden and Godmother to Madelyn Jane Le. Life became brighter that day and would remain vibrant for the 44 years to follow. Janel dreamed big and loved deeply. She was smart, full of wisdom and wit. Janel was one of the first students in the GISD Project Choice program and graduated from EKLC in 2007, going on to achieve her dream of living independently. In addition to having her own home, Janel was also proud of her professional achievements, some of which included work at Madden’s Lounge, VIP, Compass, Freedom Works and the crafting and sale of personalized hair accessories, the latter of which played a delightful role in Janel’s personal style, right alongside her ever-changing and always on-trend hair and nails. While Janel valued her role as a working woman, it was clear that her personality and passion exploded through her extracurricular activities and achievements. Janel was a member of the Terminator Bowling league for 20 years and Clio Bowling league for 6 years. Janel was also actively involved in Scouts, the Michigan Arts Access Club Create organization, and the Xceptional Heroes program, all of which allowed Janel to showcase her natural ability to lead and her creativity as an artist. Janel’s joy and talent were on full display as a dancer with both Lehr Dance Studio and more recently, the Academy de la Danse, under the guidance of Miss Holly. Janel’s desire not to miss a beat made for almost 40 years of dance recitals. Janel was a wonderful young woman, who in its purest form, loved life. Janel did nothing without purpose and intention. She had a plan for everything and a ringtone for everyone. A certainty Janel spoke of often was living her post-retirement life with the Wentworth family: Adrianne, Matt, Avary, Jaxon and Atom. Janel was the heart of her family, always giving the most personal gifts and cards, and even when quiet, never failing to offer up a precisely timed joke, nugget of wisdom, or perfect words of comfort. Janel was remarkably intuitive and compassionate, reaching out regularly to her friends and family with questions, stories and check-ins. As the proud Aunt to Piper, Beckett, Gavin and Tess, Janel never failed to ask Philip things like: “do Piper and Tess have enough hair ties?” “Is her Lucky Charm, Beckett, having a good day?” “Was Gavin afraid of the recent thunderstorm?” Janel took a lot of pride in her relationships with others, but it is the others – everyone whose lives she touched – who will be forever better because of her. Janel was magical. Janel was a gift.

Janel will be remembered for her infectious smile, silly laugh, quirky phrases, painted rocks, uncanny recall of the most interesting facts, the way she would adopt people into her family like “Aunt Juliane,” the ability to pick the ideal outfit or costume for any event, perfectly executed green bean casserole, passion for color, expert level foot rubs, deep conviction in her beliefs and faith, and most importantly, her absolute and unconditional love of people.

Janel is survived by her parents, Dennis and Lorraine (Madden) Provost, her brother Philip Provost (Holly), their children, Piper, Beckett, Gavin and Tess, Uncles: Jeff Provost (Robyn), Steve Provost (Katrina), Jody Provost (Godsissy Cheryl Fortner), Marty Madden (Karla), Dave Madden, Aunts: Cindy Wright (Chuck), Lori Wright, Nancy Madden, Patty Madden, cousins: Chris Wright (Jodi), Shawn Salgat, Tonya Provost-Hawkins (Myke), Jill Stiff (Brian), Jamie Wright, Courtney Provost, Tera Gould (Rob), Dan Provost (Jessica), Katie Boyer (Scott), Megan Wright, Joel Wright (Cassie), Rychelle Madden-Herkner (Kyle), Alysia Root (Rich), Leslie Madden (David Le), Allen Madden (Kari), Alex Lee (Joie), Daniel Madden, Great Aunts Mary Goddard, Franny Kuntz, Ruthie Gallas (Dean), Florida family and friends, her Quality Living support team: Jamie, Jodi, Joey, and Sam, and the multitude of other cousins and friends who all played a pivotal role in Janel’s extraordinary life.

Janel was loved.

Janel was preceded in death by her Great Grandmother Theodora Drake, Grandparents Lawerence and Eleanor Provost and Martin and Jane Madden, Uncle Ron and Aunt Bettie Hacker, Aunt Debbie Madden, Uncle Doug Madden and cousin Chad Provost.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to one of Janel’s favorite programs, Xceptional Hereos, are welcome.

Though sadness remains with all of us wondering how life moves forward without Janel, remember what Janel would say, “I’m fine, fine, fine. Don’t worry about me.” So we remember with tears in our eyes and smile.
