Richard “Gramps’ Renusch, age 85, a longtime resident of Lapeer, passed away on October 27, 2025. He was born on November 9, 1939, in Detroit, MI to Paul & Clara Renusch. Dick was a passionate and devoted fireman with the Elba Township Fire Department for 27 years and served as the assistant chief for 11 years. He worked for Chevy Motors in Flint as a millwright for 36 years up until his retirement.
He was a committed member of the Knight of Columbus – Lapeer since 1985 and played an important roll in starting the food pantry at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church where he also served as an usher. He was a current member of St. John Catholic Church in Davison where he served as a greeter.
Dick was a devoted and loving family man who could fix anything. He will be remembered for his incredible scroll work / woodworking, and his love for teaching his daughter and grandchildren to play sports.
Dick is survived by his wife of 63 years, Linda Renusch; daughter Dawn (Thomas) Phillips; son Michael Renusch; grandchildren Nate (Jessica) Sargent, Owen Phillips, and Tanner Phillips; great-granddaughter Emery Mae Sargent; sisters Elaine DiVeronica and Carol Allen; also many nieces and nephews.
Dick was preceded in death by his parents Paul & Clara and brother Paul.
Friends may visit on Thursday, October 30, 2025 from 3-8 p.m at Lynch & Sons Funeral Directors – Capstick Chapel in Lapeer. There will be a Fireman’s Tribute Walk-Through at 6:30 p.m and a Rosary service at 7 p.m.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, October 31, 2025, at 1 PM at St. John Catholic Church in Davison. Father Andrew Czajkowski will officiate. Burial at Mt. Loretto Cemetery in Lapeer.
