Robert Schabel

SCHABEL, Robert P. – of Lapeer, age 85, passed away Monday, June 16, 2025, at McLaren-Flint. Cremation has taken place. A Memorial Mass will be held 1 PM on Friday, June 27, 2025, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 404 N. Dayton Street, Davison, MI 48423; Rev. Andrew A. Czajkowski celebrant. Inurnment with military honors will follow in Mt. Loretto Cemetery. The family will welcome visitors from 3-7 PM on Thursday, June 26, 2025, at Allen Funeral Home, 9136 Davison Rd., Davison, MI 48423. There will be one hour of visitation prior to the Mass on Friday at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. A Rosary will be prayed at 6:30 PM on Thursday at Allen Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Veterans Administration of Lapeer County, in Robert’s memory.


Robert was born in Flint, MI on November 28, 1939, son of the late Maurice and Sylvia (Cnudde) Schabel. He proudly served in the U.S. Air Force in Spokane, WA from 1958 until 1963. Bob married Virginia T. Chickonoski on August 1, 1964, and she preceded him in death on December 7, 2002. He was proud to have worked as an electrician at Buick for 35 years. Bob was meticulous when he was caring for his lawn, his garage, or his home. He had beautiful flower gardens. Bob was a talented handyman and enjoyed woodworking for many years. He enjoyed participating with the Blue Water Art Assoc. with his wife, Virginia every Tuesday. After her death, he found he had a wonderful gift for photography and spent much of his time capturing amazing nature photos.


Bob is survived by his loving four sons, Stephen Schabel, Dennis (Maureen) Schabel, Tim (Elizabeth) Schabel, and Ron (Patty) Schabel; eight grandsons, Greggory, Jeffrey, Jack, Joe, Owen, Henry, Daniel, and Ben; three sisters, Garnett Hickey, Mary Ann (Walter) Rosinski, and Beverly (Lee) Siegel; one brother, Glenn (Sharon) Schabel; special friend, Mary Quintal and her granddaughter, Emma; and many other loving family members and friends.


In addition to his parents and his wife, Bob was preceded in death by three brothers, George Schabel, James Schabel and Mike Schabel.
