SCHAEFFER, Walter James – of Davison, age 95, passed away Sunday, November 9, 2025, at The Willows of East Lansing. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 1 PM on Tuesday, November 25, 2025, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 404 North Dayton Street, Davison, MI 48423; Rev. Andrew Czajkowski celebrant. Interment with Military Honors will be held at St. John Catholic Cemetery immediately following the Mass. The family will welcome visitors from 4-7 PM on Monday, November 24, 2025, at Allen Funeral Home, 9136 Davison Road, Davison, MI 48423. There will be one hour of visitation prior to the Mass on Tuesday at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. A Rosary will be prayed at 6:30 PM on Monday at Allen Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Davison High School Athletics, Checks Payable To: Davison Public Schools (Memo: Athletic Programs), in Walter’s memory.
Walter was born in Flint, MI on June 22, 1930, son of the late Harry and Josephine (Pietrosz) Schaeffer. He graduated from Davison High School in 1948 as Vice President of his class. Walter proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He married Rosa Sloan on June 22, 1957, and she preceded him in death on November 22, 2022. Walter retired from Fisher Body #1 in 1986, after many years of service. He was a lifetime and original 3rd Degree member of the Knights of Columbus Council #4090. Walter was also a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Davison. He enjoyed all sports, including golf, bowling, softball, volleyball, deer hunting and fishing. He loved playing cards, going to casinos, and spending time with his family and friends. He especially loved watching all of his children’s and grandchildren’s events.

Walter is survived by his loving children, Denise (Mark) Nester, David (Kristine) Schaeffer, and Jennie Schaeffer; grandchildren, Analise (John), Gabriel, James (Tammy), Kevin (Laura), Forrest (Jen), Roan, Aaron (Alina) and Elena; 6 great-grandchildren; brother, Harry (Jean) Schaeffer; sister, Joie Bowman; and many other loving family members and friends. In addition to his parents and his beloved wife, Rosa, Walter was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Natalia Nester; and sisters, Marilyn Marsden and Betty (Leon) Tarrant.
