Mary Ruth Gillett, age 89, a lifelong resident of Lapeer, passed away on October 16, 2024, in the comforts of her home. She was born in Laingsburg, MI on December 30, 1934, daughter to Robert and Gertrude Coe. Mary worked as a nurse at Oakdale State Home and eventually retired. She was a devoted Catholic and fan of the Detroit Tigers. Her hobbies included hunting, golf, traveling, crocheting, and trips to the casino. Mary’s love for her family had no end and she cherished her time spent with her family and friends. She will be deeply missed by many.
Mary is survived by her children Judy McMaster, Teresa O’Hara, Mike (Roxanne) Gillett, Pat Gillett, and Mary Jo Willbanks; 20 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband Frederick L. Gillett and her grandson Robert C. Gillett.
In keeping with Mary’s wishes, cremation has been entrusted to Lynch & Sons Funeral Directors – Capstick Chapel in Lapeer. A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, October 25th at 1:00 p.m. at St. John Catholic Church, 404 North Dayton St, Davison, MI 48423. Father Dieudonne Ntakarutimana will officiate. A luncheon will immediately follow at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or Shriners Hospital for Children.
