Born April 24, 1959, the son of James John Flood, Sr. and Virginia (Minaudo) Flood, brother of Carol, James John, Jr., Marlene, Yvonne, and Diane. Married September 15, 1990, he was the husband of 34 years to Wendy L. Osika, father to Adam, Alicia, Evan Flood, and friend to all. Richard embodied the best things in life. He had a story for every occasion, a joke for every audience, and a smile ever present on his face. When asked about the message contained in the sermon at Mass each morning, he would reply simply with, “love.” But the truth is, Richard was love. Throughout his life growing up in Flint, attending college at Michigan State University, and working for decades in the automotive industry, he won over lifelong friends all along the way. He was the first person to call in a bind, or to have a good time. Whether for a concert, sporting event, round of golf, or pitcher of margaritas, Richard was guaranteed to be the best company. Though his life was cut far too short, family and friends will continue to regale in his endless tales of traveling across Europe as a young man, attending Tigers opening days, cheering for the ponies at the Kentucky Derby, and enjoying the Florida sun. His legacy will live on in the love that he poured onto family and friends and the joy that his memories will forever spark. As he always said, “You can always put out a fire, but you can never stop a Flood.”
Richard is survived by his wife, Wendy; children, Adam Flood, Alicia Flood and Evan Flood; siblings, Carol Csapo, Marlene Gunderson, Yvonne (Ken) Galvas, Diane Flood; many other loving family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, James John Flood, Jr.; brother-in-law, Garry Gunderson.
