WHITSON, James Irvin – of Lapeer, MI, age 77, passed away on Monday, December 23, 2024, at his home surrounded by his loving family. Cremation has taken place. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 1 PM Wednesday, January 8, 2025, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 404 N. Dayton St., Davison, MI 48423; Rev. Fr. Andrew Czajkowski, celebrant. The family will receive visitors one hour prior to the Mass. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. John Catholic Church or St. Mary Catholic Church in Flint.
James was born in Flint, MI on April 9, 1947, son of the late James S. and Antonina (Buffa) Whitson. He married Sharon Pekala on November 8, 1969 at St. Luke’s. James was a member on K of C #4090 and United States Power Squadron. He worked as a supervisor at Delphi, retiring after 30 years of service. After retirement he was Senior Navigator of the Highlander Sea Tall Ship. James was known for his quick wit, making his wife laugh every day. He loved to fish and was an avid reader.
James is survived by his wife, Sharon; children, Jennifer Whitson (John) Miller and Christopher Whitson and Jessica Bowman; many other loving family members and friends. He was preceded in death by siblings.
